Firewall Management and Setup

A firewall set up around how your office works, then kept up to date and watched by people who know what they're looking at.

Why a firewall needs looking after

The software needs updates. The rules need reviewing whenever the office changes, because a rule that made sense when it was added may now be a hole. And someone has to notice when it's blocking an attack or struggling under load. We take care of all of it.

How we set it up

Understand your office

Who needs to reach what, from where: remote staff, guest Wi-Fi, phones, cameras and any outside connections.

Design and install

We choose equipment sized for your internet speed and set rules that are as tight as they can be without getting in your way.

Test and hand over

We test everything first, switch over at a quiet time, and document the setup.

Ongoing management

Updates applied

Firmware and security updates installed promptly, at times that won't interrupt work.

Rules kept tidy

Old openings removed, and new ones added properly when your needs change.

Watched for trouble

Alerts come to our own Cybersecurity team around the clock, and they act on them. If the firewall linking your offices goes down, that's critical. During business hours we aim to respond within 15 minutes and guarantee a response within the hour.

pfSense and others

We often build on Netgate pfSense, and we manage a range of other firewalls too.

Where a managed firewall matters

Who needs it most

Offices with remote staff, more than one location, guest Wi-Fi or sensitive records, where a firewall that was set up once and forgotten is a real risk.

What we won't sell you

A bigger firewall than your internet connection and office need. If the one you have is supported and sized right, we'll manage it as it is.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a firewall be updated?
Security updates should go on soon after they're released, and the rules should be reviewed at least once a year or whenever your setup changes. We take care of both.
What firewall problems do you see most?
Out-of-date software, rules nobody remembers adding, and remote access left wide open. All are easy to fix once someone looks.
Do we need a new firewall?
Not always. We check two things: whether the manufacturer still releases updates for it, and whether it keeps up with your internet speed. If it falls short on either, we'll explain why replacing it is worth the money.
Will switching firewalls disrupt our office?
We schedule the switch for a quiet time, usually after hours, and test everything before your team arrives.
What should we have ready before we talk?
Not much. Book a free IT check-in and tell us how many offices and remote staff you have and what's been giving you trouble. If you know what firewall you have, great. If not, that's fine too.
